First Love Contest #5: Vintage Sparrow & Cathedral Bead Necklace & a Hello Kitty Fun Pack

WINNER ANNOUNCED!
Congrats Miss Mary, Quite Contrary! Check out her 'Now Entering Momville' blog, which is absolutely hilarious. Love the 'Hitler' reference!

The Lil' Lion with the Red Ruby Eyes

When I was in grade school, I was only interested in riding my tricked out bike. But unfortunately there was a boy interested in me...and his name was Clayton. He saw through my tomboyish ways and gave me a gift one day, to which I said thanks and ran to the bathroom to open it.

Clayton had bought me a little gold lion pendant with sparkling ruby eyes (I lost the rubies over the years). It was lovely...but something stirred inside of me. It was then that I realized that I'm not girlfriend material.

Like Samantha Jones famously said...
"I love you, but I love myself more." And there you have it...Clayton set me up for the 'single city girl who loves fashion more than men' lifestyle.

YOUR TOPIC:
Tell me about your first (or most meaningful) piece of jewelry. Maybe it was a dime store ring your first love gave you? Or a diamond necklace from your great-grandmother? Or maybe it was a Candy Necklace from your raver days (don't lie, we know you were poppin' and lockin')?

PRIZES:
Win this Sparrow & Vintage Cathedral Bead Necklace and Hello Kitty Fun Pack! (Value $58)
This one-of-a-kind Sparrow & Vintage Cathedral Bead Necklace brings my two favorite things together: vintage glass beads & tattoo flash sparrows! In the 1950's, this style of Sparrow was an integral part of tattoo flash.
And this lil' one hangs from vintage deadstock (never used) Cathedral beads. I've sold more of these necklaces than any other
sparrow styles.

PLUS you will also win this Hello Kitty Fun pack that includes stickers, Cinnamon Roll Plush, giant Japanese Hello Kitty button, Paul Frank pins & Charmmy Kitty bag.

HOW TO ENTER:

1. You must sign up at lovelasmuertas.com for the newsletter. Don't worry, I would NEVER spam you! (http://www.lovelasmuertas.com)

2. Post a comment here.
Tell me about your most meaningful or 1st piece of jewelry, along with your first name so I can identify you if you win. Remember to be CREATIVE!

3. Good luck!! Winner announced around June 19th.

PS Please read the directions. You won't be chosen if you don't follow these 3 rules. And you especially won't be chosen if you don't sign-up for the newsletter, leave your first name in the comment, or write, 'pick me! pretty jewelry!', because it's obvious you didn't bother to read these rules. ;)Good Luck!

My wedding ring, what can I say? Nothing prior to that had as much meaning.

I, Renee, as an adolescent shopped with my mother for earrings. The filigree gold butterfly wings sparkled in the jewelry display case. I made them mine with baby sitting earnings.

My first piece of jewelry was one of my mother's rings that I begged her to give to me for years as a child. She finally gave in one day and gave it to me. It was a silver ring with a cross on it. Thanks so much for the opportunity to win.

The most meaningful piece I received was this cute ring that my hubby bought for me before we were married. It was a playful ring and it was in my fave color - purple.

My parents gave me a 1 caret diamond ring when I turned 20 years old. Turning 20 is a big thing in Chinese culture. The ring is beautiful, but I keep it in my drawer only because I didn't want to "show off" my big diamond ring. Still, I really treasure this gift from my parents.

My most memorable piece of jewelry was a golden topaz ring given to me by my boyfriend, when I was 15, and in the 9th grade. It was a pretty fancy "going steady" ring, and I thought it was So Cool!!

My first special jewelry was a gold ring with 5 tiny diamonds. My aunt and grandmother took me to lunch and to buy my first real jewelry for my 6th grade graduation.

My most meaningful piece of jewelry is my engagement/wedding rings. We were on a very limited budget and did not want to go into debt so we bought only what my husband to be could afford to buy. I loved them then and I still do. Both of my daughters-in-law have upgraded their engagement rings but I couldn't even think of replacing mine.

When I was getting ready to graduate high school my parents were going to give me money. I asked if they would buy my a ring instead. I knew that the money would be spent on something I wouldn't really need. My parents bought me a beautiful amyethyst ring that I still treasure 21 years later. Kathy

The most meaningful piece of jewelery is my elephant necklace. Even though I got it myself, it means a lot to me. I had it for years, but one day I lost it in the evening and only to realize that night. I told the guy that I have liked for years about it. Since he hung out with me the entire day, he knew where I've been, so he retraced my steps only to find that it was broken. Eventually, he put it back back for me just like before. I think I knew then that he liked me, but we never had a chance to be together.

My most meaningful piece of jewelry was a teddy bear necklace I received on my 5th Birthday that was held at the local McDonalds. At the age of 5 I may have been more interested in the playground than this necklace. But as I got older and still held on to that little 14K bear, I realized my mother was instilling a very valuable love in me, not only her own love, but the love of jewelry! I hope to pass this bear down to my future "little girl" and in turn pass on the family love of jewelry!

My most meaningful piece of jewelry would have to be the ring my mom gave me at my surprise 13th birthday party years ago. It was a purity ring, a symbol of staying true for my future husband. It hold a lot of sentimental value along with spiritual value. I treasure it immensely and wear it every day to remind myself how happy I will be when I give it to my husband one day.

I think I must be dumb because I can't find where to sign up for the newsletter. :( I will continue to try to solve this mystery!

In any event, my favorite piece of jewelry is a heavy sterling silver cross with a cutout of a heart and sword in the middle of it, if that makes sense? Like, there's a sword stabbing downward into the heart. Actually it's probably a sacred heart -inspired design, but as it belonged to a very obsessive ex, I kind of prefer to think of it as a sword. I don't wear the piece anymore, but when I dig through my jewelry box I always sit and look at it for a while.

When my grandma passed away many years ago, she left a loose diamond to my sister and I so my mom took us to choose a fitting of our own selection to put it in. That ring that I made with my Grandma's diamond has more meaning to me than any other piece of jewelry that I own, including my wedding/engagement ring. I'm sentimental and sappy so she couldn't have left me anything better. However, it could have been a fake diamond and I would have loved it just as much.

My first piece of jewelery was a butterfly ring that my grandparents bought me at Dollywood when I was 10. This led to my most meaningful piece of jewelry because my parents saw how well I took care of the ring and they decided to buy me a birthstone ring for Christmas that year.

Thanks!

When I was about 14 my sister and I went to visit relatives for a couple of weeks in what was probably the smallest town in Texas. Heck, it was so small I'm not sure if it could even be called a town.I think every boy who lived there was on the highschool football team. That should tell you something about the population there.I guess there were not many girls living there either, cause the local football hero gave me his little silver football which was my first piece of jewelry. I wore that on a chain around my neck all summer long. My first conquest! Carol

When I was a young girl, around 8 or so. I remember going to a very artsy store with my grandmother. They had all sorts of handmade necklaces, charms, etc. I remember spotting a heart-shaped broach, I fell in love with. It had tons of glitter and beads in every rainbow colour you can imagine, and it surrounded a picture of Lucy from I Love Lucy looking up, pensive. It was all held together with a clear enamel. Around the outside of the heart was framed with tiny silver lace.

I begged my grandmother to get it for me, and she did. I remember a struggle and being proud of owning it. I might have even dragged her back to get it after we had left! Either way, I still have it; I remember seeing it at my dad's house fairly recently. I might be able to find it, I should look soon. I've kept it through my parent's divorce, house move, college, and today. =)

When I was turned 11 my grandma upgraded my earrings to from hoop earrings to a larger size. The larger size ones were made of 24 K gold and once they were on, were very hard to take off. I loved them because I am sensitive to nickel on earrings and I could wear these all day long. The earrings was also special to me becuase it was a blessing and a gift to symbolize me growing into my womanhood. Even though they are now bent out of shape and to the point where I can no longer where them, I still enjoy looking at them because they remind me of my grandma who lives on the other side of the country in FL.

This is so much fun! I'm in love with the necklace, too! The first piece of jewelry I received was a "golden" (read turns your skin green) I.D. bracelet from a guy in junior high I had NO interest in, Ryan...I bet he and Clayton were cousins or something. The bracelet looked like any I.D. bracelet you've ever seen, except he put MY name on the front and HIS name on the back!!!???!!! and added hearts next to his name...making it look like I had it made! I was horrified. I didn't put it on or wear it until I heard he cried during gym class...then I wore it for the rest of the week! If only guys would like me that much now!!! Thanks for the walk down memory lane!!! :) (Oh, yeah...I signed up w/ my email address on the Love Las Muertas site, too!)
